Panel of Frames Episode 04 - Full Transcription
So you're telling me the guys that made stranger things are now making a death note live action series. This gives me burning questions. Marvel's gonna show up to San Diego comic con with Xmen 97. And what if season two and Marvel zombies. What is Jamie Fox doing? Hanging out with Snoop dog in Los Angeles, killing vampires on Netflix.
Let me tell you about that today. And we give tribute to the creator of Yugi. It's all happening. Welcome to.
Welcome back to panel frames. This is your host Fox ferocious, your ferocious Fox himself. Last episode, we were talking about th love and thunder. I gave my, um, non spoiler thoughts on that. There's a spoiler thoughts coming and you know, I think I'm just gonna. All spoiler spoiler thoughts, because I'm, I just wanna talk about the movie when I want to talk about the movie and I wanna talk about it in detail.
So I'm just gonna skip the non spoiler stuff most of the time, maybe sometimes you'll get one, but there's a spoiler, thorough love and thunder audio coming soon. So stay tuned for that. We cover gig media in. So we're starting with the media news. You heard earlier about the death note stuff and the Marvel stuff.
And then we move on to the video game news. We're gonna be talking about Terminator and all that. So before we get started, I just want to tell you how you can support the show. You can download it. I think from anywhere, right? You might be listening on Spotify. You can save us to your phone. You can follow and share the podcast with your friends, your fellow geeks.
And we just launched the new website panel frames.com. You can sign up for our email list there if you wanna get podcasts, updates, reliably and directly, but you can also just go up there and chill out and we appreciate the. Let me start our first story off the media stories of our media stories. By telling you I have seen stranger things seasons one through three, I'm gonna watch four.
And I will tell you how I feel about four cuz a lot of people have been raving and. And loving it after I could have sworn people stop watching stranger things. But I mean, there was a, a huge break because of the sickness that was happening. Imagine my surprise because I love stranger things. Most of it like a good 90% of it.
Imagine my surprise to know that the creators, the Duffer brothers themselves, they grew up on twin peak. They started a production company. I was like, whoa, maybe if I had watched stranger things season four already, cuz I think maybe that's when they showed their name of their production company or maybe I'm wrong, but they have a production company called upside down pictures, like the upside down and stranger things.
Obviously the Duffer brothers started the production company and this is what they said to create the kind of stories that inspired them growing up. So the con the current productions, they. Are Stephen Kings, the Taliman, I guess that's, uh, Stephen King book that another one that I haven't read. And they're doing that with Stephen Spielberg and paramount television, they're doing a stranger things stage play.
a stage play, not based off any particular season. I think it's gonna be a new story and an untitled stranger things spin off like this. They have a story idea and they're hiring other people to see it through and that they also have a new original. Apparently. So they, they, they are very busy. The Duffer brothers are very busy in the middle of all of this.
They come through and they say, y'all know what y'all know what else we wanna do. What else you wanna do? Duffer brothers. What y'all feel about light? Ya mean. I'm like, uh, light Turner. You mean light Turner. Netflix already tried to do something like this. Are you sure that you want to do this? They wanna make a death note series live action series.
Now death note is one of my favorite anime series. Okay. I've not read the manga, but I'm going to collect the. it is my favorite. One of my favorites, not my favorite, but it is one of my favorite, top 10, top 20 anime anime series. I've seen both Japanese movies. I haven't seen the, uh, ale change the world, but I've seen the death, no part one of death, no part two Japanese movies.
And I like them better than the actual ending of the, an. Near him, mellow. I was just like, man so I really liked the ending of the movie better than the animate. So I was like, wow, this actually improved. And the CG while it didn't age too. Well, when it came out, I was like, I mean, that's REU. That's how he looks.
I'm I'm down. All right. And then it came out. Netflix came through years later and decided that they wanted to put half of the naked brothers band as light Turner in an Americanized whitewashed colonized version of death note on Netflix. I'm like, bro, I'm open minded. I like the Nick brothers band show.
I like some of their music. I don't wanna go to school. I'm cool. I'm cool with that. Let's see what happens. It didn't happen, bro. It, it was bad. it was bad. They ruined lights, character Youku is the only person in the show that acted how he was supposed to act. And L played by LA Keith Stanfield. He, he half way through the movie, he just turned into I'm gonna shoot light.
Like he was, he was L for the first half. And then the second half he turned into like an FBI agent type dude. I was like, this might as well have been named something completely different REU. I feel like REU came from the other, the anime. To see what this version of light would be like. And he was sorely disappointed with the rest of us now, Misa, she took his qualities, the anime version of light's qualities down to saying, give me my book.
And I'm like, yo, kick her out of the Ferris wheel. Anyway, that movie was, uh, trash. It was a travesty. It had some cool. But overall, it was just misguided completely. The American movie did none, nothing that the Japanese movie did well, honestly, so I hope the Duffer brothers can create an amazing series because it'll work, it'll work as far as it'll work better than a movie, as far as anime, you know, cuz anime is already a series.
So, and. It's already a series it's it's bit by bit. So this has a lot of potential, especially coming from the Duffer brothers. And since Netflix is hell bent on making animate live actions, for some reason, for our next story, we have something I'm very, very excited about Marvel animation. It's gonna be showing up at San Diego.
ComicCon I hope they released some trailers cuz the rest of us need some. We, we pay for Disney plus too. Okay. Most of us, the rest of us need some, uh, some, uh, let me know that my investment is going towards something great. You know, Marvel said, okay, we're gonna come to San Diego ComicCon and we're bringing Xmen 90.
I'm like, yo. Okay. Okay. What are you gonna tell me about this? What is the story of this? Did, did the Xmen in Dr. Strange two. Was he, the one from the animated series? I hope not. Cuz then we gonna have some problems for real. What if season two? Um, I don't know what to think about this one, but I really want them, I want them to go.
Hard with what if season two, it needs to be way crazier than season one, bro. It needs to be, it needs to take more chances than season one and don't feel the need to connect things or, you know, just, just, I just want an anthology show. You ain't gotta connect them and they gotta fight a big, bad at the.
That is that's cool if you do it right, but you have to make sure you do it right. I mean, we got Michael B. Jordan Killmonger, uh, fighting against, uh, was it Tron? Just eternally somewhere. I don't know how we reconcile that. So I am curious to see what you guys do. I hope these products, cuz these, this marketing is great for these shows.
Like I know they're gonna have a great trailer and, but is the product gonna live up to the marketing, please? If you're gonna get us hyped up Disney, please live up to this because I just watch CNN. Ending of miss Marvel, which I wasn't gonna do before recording this, but I just watched the ending of miss Marvel and they, I'm not gonna tell you, but man, I was like, do you know how long I've been waiting to hear you say that word?
Y'all could not say that. And I know where you're going now. I know now, because you said that word, it's great. It's great. But now they have to, they really have to go crazy after this. They cannot, they, this little tip toeing that phase four has been doing. You gotta stop that. We need some consequences. We gotta half of, uh, the first, the one 16th of a celestial, just hanging out in where the north pole or wherever he was coming out of the water.
we just got a celestial have this marble celestial body just hanging. looks like a whole statue somewhere on earth, man. Nobody's talking about it. It's just weird. You, you have to put some consequences for this Marvel zombies is what they're bringing to the SDCC. Now I didn't expect this this quick. I know they, they say, oh, it's rumored to be in development a long time ago.
And then I guess they officially announced it kind of, but to, to see that they've gotten development done, they have work done to show at SDCC. Now I don't know how far it is and I doubt that we are gonna see it cuz you know, I'm just in Tennessee sitting around. I ain't got time to fly to San Diego to see some trailers, eh, maybe one day I will.
But what I have to say about Marvel Zo. Disney Marvel. You have to bring the gruesome, you have to bring the nasty, the gruesome you, you got close in. What if season one with some of those episodes with the rummage, you got kind of close, but you need to just dip on in there all the way. Maybe not all the way, maybe.
Okay. Don't punish or max it, but it needs to be TV 14. TVMA maybe not TVMA if it's TVMA needs to be a light TVMA, they're probably not gonna do that, but at least TV 14, it needs to be like, this could be on adult swim. That's how it needs to feel. And I don't know if that's y'all's. But this is Marvel zombies.
This ain't straight up the MCU. It doesn't have to be so it's time to start playing. It's time to stop. It's it is time to stop playing around and start playing with what you got. I just can't wait to see it. If we see anything, he goes, I don't get to go to San. Go for our third story. we got Jamie Fox, Snoop dog, and, uh, Dave Franco teaming up to kill vampires on Netflix.
And that honestly should be the end of the story, but the more I dug the funnier, it got, this movie is gonna be out this year on Netflix. It's called day shift and it takes place in Los Angeles. They're hunting vampires, not just hunting vampires because to survive, you know, we need to survive cuz we're humans, they're hunting vampires for money.
They're getting paid to take out the VAs and take the tooth. The teeth, the teeth is to where they need to take it. The fight scenes in the trailer, they look pretty good from the trailer. Now I could be really bad when in, in the movie we don't know, but in the trailer they look great. I'm like, okay, this, this looks satisfyingly violent.
Uh, I'm glad it's not in theaters. Cuz it does look cheap, but the camera movements. Okay, cool. and this is. It's produced by Chad Toski. We talked about Chad Toski last week. He's the director of all the John wick movies. And he is directing ghost of Sushma the movie or the series. I forget it. I think it's a movie and he was Brandon Lee's stunt double on the Crow.
So he's producing this movie. He's hired pretty much JJ Perry to direct it. And he is also a stunt. What has this man done? JJ Perry. I, this is where he got funny. When I started digging, he was Linden Asby stunt double for Johnny cage on the original mortal combat movie. That's not where it ends for him in mortal combat because he was Cyra scorpion, and NOBE CBO in motor combat annihilation.
Ain't that great. He's and of all the ones he's been in, he has also been sub zero. in mortal combat conquest, the TV show. Do you remember the TV show? He was sub zero, the TV show from back in the day. That's been syndicated now. So, um, wow. He's been a lot of ninjas. He was in duck, man. You remember the duck man cartoon that used to show on comedy central led one 30 in the morning.
He played a ninja in the season two episode, one of duck man, and went uncredited. So this is who's directing this movie. He's got way more credit than that too. He's been stuntman for way other many other things we'll see, uh, in the trailer. I didn't know Megan Good was in it until I saw the trailer hub find, um, anyway, Dave Franco looks like he's just.
Playing a kind of goofy type of character, but I just wanted to let you guys know that that was, that that was happening. That Jamie Fox and Snoop dog were gonna be killing vampires on day shift. Check that trailer out when you can. It's a fun trailer. I hope the movie's good. I hope it's worth. I feel like it'll be worth at least one watch.
I mean, Snoop dog took out a Gatling. And just started shooting in the trailer. So I'm hoping we got some more stuff like that. We'll see. Just an interesting story. This last media topic for this week is a sad one. Kazaki Takahashi. He created Yugi the popular Monga series Yugo and supervised on the anime series.
I grew up with the anime series. I used to get shown in jump to read UGI Takahashi drowned on July. Officials are saying 2022 while snorkeling. And they said he had shark bites. So it was likely a shark attack. So I just wanted to pay some tribute. His manga Yugi has sold over 40 million copies. As of this date, he received the ink pot award from ComicCon inter.
In 2015 for his contributions to the comic book industry and his favorite mangas were Jojo's bizarre venture dragon ball and Akeda and his favorite American comic book character was Hellboy. He was 60 years old, resting peace. Mr. Tahashi. All right. I had to get a little somber just now, cuz that, that, that did make me sad when I learned that.
But now we gotta switch over to some gaming and tech news. We got some things here that I am very excited about. Just like I told you earlier, I'm a huge death. No fan guess whether the kind of fan I am, I'm a. Huge Terminator fan to the point where I will apologize for some of the bad movies, but there's some things that I will not apologize for.
Like John Connor being the, uh, Terminator that one time. And no, we're not doing that. Okay. But as far as gaming, I've always wondered why they haven't delved far enough into the robots versus humans. Things, especially since automation has taken a bunch of jobs, guess what? They are making an open world survival.
For the Terminator series announced by Nacon, who are also making a Robocop game and their Robocop game features the original actor for Robocop Peter Weller. So that's pretty cool. I wonder if Arnold's gonna come back for this, you never know. You never know. And I don't know what type of game this is gonna be.
Apparently it's really, really early in development, but it takes place between judgment day and the birth of John Connor's resistance. Movement when humans were being exterminated, you play as nuclear survivors. I think apparently, apparently, cuz I all this is in the year cuz it's still kind of in development.
I, I looked into Nacon cuz I never heard of them. I'm I'm outta touch with a lot of the modern video game companies only to find out that Nacon is not quite, it's not quite a modern video game company. Nacon is a French company and they used to be named big Ben interactive. They've been around since 1981 since 1981.
so I definitely was not expecting that their first game was 2000 twos cannon spike for the Sega dream gas. Nacon what they do now. They not only make video games, but they mostly publish them. Now they own studios that have made games, like call of Kalu, world rally championship, and greed. I've heard a greed fall and call Catula, but not, not WRC, but apparently it's a, it's a racing game that a lot of people play by the way.
I bet you, James Cameron will come out and say that this is the real terminated three, cuz he's done that with every terminated thing that has come out since after terminated two, it'll be out for PC in all consoles, all consoles, even the switch in the distant. Very Terminator. The next gaming topic. Our last gaming topic rockstar is killing major themed content updates for red dead, online to focus on GTA six.
Hmm. Is it, is it the death of westerns again? What's happening? So they're moving more development resources to GTA. So they can exceed players' expectations and fix the next entry to be the best it can possibly be. And as a result of this, because apparently red, dead, I don't have red dead online.
Apparently it's been dying for the last six to eight months, so much so that on Twitter, they have a hashtag called hashtag save red dead. I'm like, wow, they really didn't give y'all anything for this game. Did they? I wonder, you know, grant theft auto is such a huge thing, especially the online. It's such a huge thing.
And it's been around forever. It's been around five years, longer than red dead too. I was gonna say, well, red dead toos, an old game, and it might be time to slow down on updates anyway, but GTA. Five released like 2000 and, and 13 or something. So helps five years before red dead way before. And GTA online is still receiving major expansions, I guess, cuz there's major money spent I'm twisted on this one because both the games were $60 for the most part.
Is it just that modern, urban. Are more cathartic to play in than a Western setting. It could that be it because this is peculiar. I would think that they would keep both systems up and running, but I guess red dead is think about the audience that red dead targets too. I guess red dead is. What do you do in that game?
You can't build stables. Can you? You can't. Uh, I don't, like I said, I haven't played, you can't build stables or have crew. I think you're gonna have crew members, but you. Do, what you can do in GTA. GTA is just a more versatile idea, cuz it's a city and they have aliens sometimes and all this other stuff, red, dead had zombies once.
That's the extent of what you can do in red dead. So it kind of makes sense. But at the same time, I'm a little bummed for the red dead players. And yet grant theft auto is just receiving more support even on the next entry that isn't out yet. But Hey, I'm holding out hope for y'all maybe one more big, big content update for red dead, but I'll be over here playing Marvel ultimate Alliance three on the switch.
And guys that is gonna be all for this week of a panel of frames. I'll be back next Wednesday. Thank you for listening. I was in a crazy accident two days ago as of this recording.
And I really appreciate those that reached out to me and, and were glad that I was okay. I'm glad that I'm okay. So for those of y'all that don't know, I'm not gonna get too far into it. I was going off the interstate. I had just got done door dashing. So I was gonna get some Wendy's. I was coming off the interstate as somebody was getting onto the interstate using the off ramp.
So we ran right into each other, like head to head collision. And I just, I slowed down as much as I could. And they listen. Y. I'm not gonna say exactly where it was. Okay. But it's crazy because there is a long hill. And even then, if you're going the wrong way, if nobody's coming you, there's a middle part where you have to get off and where you can keep on going onto the interstate.
There's a middle part where you can stop at and like do a U-turn like ly U-turn. But she made it all the way past that. So she was booking it on the, in the wrong way. Imagine like turning into the wrong lane while you're driving and it's just cars coming at you. This is what she did. Very grateful to still be here to record this podcast.
Anything can happen, yo treasure, life I've and it's no, it is a big deal to me, but I've always imagined. What would I do in that situation? I've always asked myself that, that question. And, and I did what I did, uh, which was slow down and block your face and neck. Uh, so yeah, that's one of my worst fears guys and it happened, but anything can happen on any day at any time.
And I always say that to myself every week and I will continue to say that to myself, every. Because now I have an example. so Hey, do what you need to do so you can do what you want to do. Cuz as far as we know, we only get one of these. So like I said, the next episode will be out Wednesday for the news.
We're gonna be doing an audio commentary for the last miss Marvel episode on Thursday, tomorrow, Thursday. So you can, uh, come through for that man. You get to hear my reaction to the word that they said. So you can, uh, watch that on Disney plus and line it up, sync it up with me and that'll be golden.
Appreciate you guys. It's been Fox eroes with panel frames, sta Clemson.

a) Upside Down Pictures creating Death Note live action series
The Duffer Bros started a production company to “create the kind of stories that inspired the Duffers growing up”
Their productions are Stephen King's The Talisman with Spielberg and Paramount Television, AStranger Things Stage Play, an untitled Stranger Things Spin Off and a new original series
Death Note is one of my favorite anime series ever and I've seen both Japanese movies and the cursed Death Note Netflix movie starring half of the Naked Bros Band. I loved the Japanese movies and believe they had a better ending than the anime did (Near and Mello didn't do it for me). And the American movie did none of that. I hope the Duffer Bros can create an amazing series since Netflix is hell-bent on making animes live-action
b) Marvel Animation at San Diego Comic Con
Marvel is coming with X-Men 97, What If Season 2 and Marvel Zombies!
I hope we get some footage, but I really hope that the products of this marketing live up to the hype that has been set for them. What if Season 2 needs to be crazier than Season 1 and Marvel Zombies needs to bring the gruesome.
c) Jamie Foxx, Snoop Dogg team up to kill Vampires in Day Shift on Netflix
I. Takes place in Los Angeles where they hunt vamps for MONEY. The fight scenes look good in the trailer and it looks satisfyingly violent...but I'm glad it's not in theaters

I. Game takes place between Judgment Day and the birth of John Connor's Resistance when humans were being exterminated; you play as nuclear survivors
II. Nacon is a French company used to be named BigBen Interactive and they've been around since 1981: their first game was 2002's Cannon Spike for the Sega Dreamcast.
III. Nacon owns studios that have made games like Call of Cthulhu, World Rally Championship and Greedfall
IV. I bet you James Cameron will come out and say that this is the real Terminator 3 lol
V. It'll be out for PC and all consoles in “the distant future”. Very Terminator.
b) Rockstar is killing major themed content updates for Red Dead Online to focus on Grand Theft Auto 6
I. They're moving more development resources to GTA so they can “exceed players' expectations and for this next entry to be the best it can possibly be”.
III. I would say that Red Dead 2 is an old game and it might be time to slow down on updates anyway...if GTA Online wasn't still receiving major expansions. It's 5 years older than Red Dead 2
